Vivaldi was first recognized for the profane side of his immense work, his sacred work being rediscovered only in the 1940s!
However, the “red priest” composed numerous masterpieces, especially during his service at the Seminario Musical dell'Ospedale della Pietà, a religious institution in which orphaned or abandoned girls received a purely musical education. “Making Vivaldi is simply exhilarating. Approaching your music is a bit like going to a yoga class: sometimes you are reluctant to go there but in the end, you are immersed in the greatest joy. After several decades of examining it, I admit that I still haven't tired of it.”
