Mozart | The Magic Flute

In 1791 at the Theater auf der Wieden, in a suburb of Vienna, Mozart premiered his Singspiel The Magic Flute.

The libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder, who also directed the production at his own theater, was intended to speak to a popular audience in their own language. Thanks to the work's dramatic and dreamlike qualities, and Mozart's brilliant music, it exceeded one hundred performances in a single year, and its success has only grown to this day.
But to captivate audiences of all ages, from seasoned music lovers to newcomers, Mozart and Schikaneder's masterstroke was speaking to spectators in their own language—rather than in Italian, like the court opera. That is exactly what this production offers: a version performed entirely in French, directed by Cécile Roussat and Julien Lubek (remember their splendid Dido and Aeneas by Purcell) and conducted by Hervé Niquet with a team of soloists fully committed to their roles as singer-actors: so, for a fresh take that brings even more power to Mozart's masterpiece, here is The Magic Flute in French!
