Le Concert Spirituel opens the 2026 Oude Muziek Festival Utrecht with Polyphony x40, featuring Alessandro Striggio’s spectacular Missa sopra Ecco sì beato giorno for forty solo voices. This opening concert will be broadcast live on Early Music Television (EMTV).
The Polyphony x40 concert program: Striggio’s 40-part Mass and Renaissance polyphonists
Alongside movements from Striggio’s mass (Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Benedictus, Agnus Dei), the program features works by Orazio Benevoli, Francesco Corteccia, Domenico Massenzio, and Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. The evening begins with a processional plainchant, Beata viscera, and concludes with Striggio’s other great forty-part motet, Ecce beatam lucem.
To capture the sheer scale of this composition, Le Concert Spirituel will deploy five solo choirs, cornetts, sackbuts, dulcians, cello, double bass, and keyboards, under the direction of the ensemble's founder, Hervé Niquet.

This concert is part of the programming for EMTV, the Oude Muziek Festival Utrecht’s streaming platform, which broadcasts its highlights every year. It is an opportunity for audiences in France and abroad to share in one of the season's most spectacular moments live, before the ensemble continues its tour in France with Vivaldi’s Vespers for the Virgin and orchestral works by Handel.
